A little October sunshine

There's no story to go with these, I just went out for a wee wander today before lunch since it was a rather lovely morning here in Kirkcudbright.

Along the High Street and surrounding streets many of the houses are painted in a variety of colours.

In the Selkirk Arms hotel , some time in 17canteen, Robert Burns wrote the Selkirk Grace (allegedly)
"Some hae meat that canna eat,
and some hae meat that want it,
but we hae meat and we can eat,
so let the Lord be thankit"

The Daar Lodge (a local old folks home) has opened up a garden - autumn is perhaps not the best time for a brand new garden to look it's best but I'm sure by next year it'll be lovely.

They have got one of the pieces from the recent scupture symposium........

.......and had a rather delightful mosaic made. A taller person might have managed to get it all into the shot better but I had to hold the camera as high as I could and could hardly see in the viewfinder.

They can call it a brassica if they want but I'm not paying £2.60 for a cabbage, no matter how ornamental

A local fishing boat waiting for the tide to come in.

35 years ago, these would have been currency for me.

Well the draw bridge is oiled and the moat filled and a couple of extra precautions in place in case the rabble arrive.

A very good afternoon to you all out there.

Sandy, Iused to have trouble getting high enough....I mean above the ground for a shot but the answer to getting the mosaic is simple. Just unstrap the step ladder from the rack on Godzilla's roof......oh, wait.....you don't have a Godzilla to roar around the countryside in. Well, then just look around for a ladder to ste...I mean borrow from some unsuspec.....I mean kindly soul.

In all seriousness.....or as serious as I can get shortly after my evening meds you did a masterful job of showing me around!

PS: You should hide all the ice cream and cast iron cooking implements before letting Wolfie in. She tends to get a little carried away with the whacka, whacka, whacka if you irritate her.

Thank you all for your comments.

RM, I should think if I left a great set of Godzilla tyre tracks in their new garden, I would have a torch wielding rabble of old folk trying to get into the castle as well. I might just go and buy myself a pair of platform boots.
p.s. hope your heads just about back to it's original shape.

Loved the different coloured houses. Maybe I can start a trend here in Haltwhistle...

You could sneek out at night with a few pots of paint. I visited Haltwhistle once (twice maybe) and wrote a blog about it - it can be found at http://miceforlent.wordpress.com/2006/06/22/central-hmm/
It's on my old WLS blog and has now been moved lock stock and barrel to wordpress where this article is in light blue type on a white background - I haven't worked out how to change it so you'll probably have to highlight it with the mouse to be able to read it.!!

Kirkcudbright usually provides something worth photographing Jim, especially if the sun cares to come out.
