More Moore - a hard decade.

While I was wandering about Edinburgh last month I stumbled on two Henry Moores which had been deposited around the Modern Art gallery. The first round the front is of a reclining figure from 1951.

Round the back is another reclining figure  made almost a decade later in 1960. Looks like it's been a hard few years for the old Henry now in his 60s, the smooth line of youth above gone and gnarly old age seem to have taken over.

After discovering that the Glenkiln reclining figure for the year before was made of fibreglass, I suspect that this one might be too. It is just possible with the extra disposable income from his old age pension that he would receive in 1963 he would get swept up in the flavour of the decade and flower power and that somewhere there is a 1970 reclining figure made of chrysanthemums and daisies.

Thank you very much for popping over to mine. I love the photos and script here so will be back for more!

I need to get more familiar with life further North than the Wall. Although I did work for a certain Scottish bank for many a year. Our shindigs in Edinburgh (passing as training courses) will linger long in my memory!

You're welcome. Edinburgh is indeed a fine place for a shinding - splash a few dinarii about, a little wine before the long trudge back to your windswept border wall. I have a few lingering Edinburgh memories too (well those that weren't destroyed on the night they were made)

Seems that old Henry made a career out of reclining figures, they're everywhere - it's a wonder he found time to do anything else.
