Glasgow Cathedral - Glass

Here's a selection of stained glass for Glasgow Cathedral, mostly new but a little old. The only window I know anything about is Great West Window which is The Creation by Francis Spear in the first 3 photos. The picture of the whole window is not terribly in focus but it's such a mighty old thing it seems to be wrong not to include it. As for the rest, I have no information, so I present them without comment - enjoy.

Moses and the Israelites look like Vikings!

Those are quite the windows! I learned last summer when we visited Canterbury Cathedral that the windows provided a means of educating the general populace who could not read (the Bible). The pictures provided a starting point for a story. One person would hear it and pass it on the next time, I assume.

Thanks Laoch.

Dave you're right - the art world has rarely worried to much about matching the characters of the Bible to closely to the indigenous peoples of the area.

Yes Becky - that old square one that looks like a page from a comic is,I would say,for that purpose. It's also a bit difficult to see at that size but it features a strangely very blonde Jesus.

Wonderful photos Sandy, I love stained glass, thanks for sharing these photos :)
Becky I hope you enjoyed your visit to Canterbury Cathedral, its very near to us, if you visit early in the morning you usually have the place to yourself, which is great for taking photos and is very peaceful. My only complaint is that you can no longer get near to the Lady Chapel, which has a beautiful painted ceiling!
